So yeah. All superpower- or superhero- related discussion on this forum now officially has a home. I guess we'll start with this simple, cliche'd question: If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why? What would your weakness be? (You cannot have omnipotence; every well-designed character has a weakness.) What would you use it for? I would probably want to have the ability to control gravity of any object, because it would be awesome to be able to fly around like spiderman at terminal velocity except without the webs and silly costume. (It's like flight and the force rolled in one.) My weakness would be that I occasionally lose control and can't use my powers for a few seconds. I would probably just use it for little things, like flying around and attracting stuff on the other side of rooms or hallways so I didn't have to walk over. I'd probably mess something up if I tried to use it to save peo

ower of controlling elements. When I say elements, I mean the Periodic Table of Elements. I can make almost anything, from gold to helium, appear seemingly from thin air. My weakness is that I can't make or control living things, because they're too complex, and I need at least some traces of the elements to make them. Following physics, I need to have sufficient amounts to make anything big, so as an example, I can make fire streak across places, but I need oxygen, a constant fuel, and an inhibitor to stop the flow. If I want to make water, which is really easy, I can just draw from the air, by manipulating hydrogen and oxygen particles. Another weakness is that it requires a high level of energy to be expended, so I can't just lift or make a waterfall, I need the strength to do it. I can also control sub-types and combinations of said elements, as in the case of water. Another hinder is that I need knowledge of this, so I would have to know a lot about chemical physics if I want to try something or risk accid

Anyway, I'd like to be able to control particles. This would be interesting for any number of reasons. (Faux telekinesis, exploring the universe, etc.) My weakness would be not being able to handle the matter very well. (i.e. Atoms split. Very bad things happen.) I'd use this for anything that might be interesting, probably getting myself into loads of trouble, possibly killing the whole planet by accid

Anything in motion with Direction and Magnitude, I can influence that movement.Do you know why your hand hurts after you punch someone? Newton's Third Law: For every action, there is an equal and opposite Reaction. Well, I can take that reactive force, and change it's direction back towards the object I'm punching. Double the force, none of the hurt.If you want to shoot me, go ahead. I'll have it on "reflect" by default, so it'll go hurtling back towards you.Electricity, Heat, liquid motion, light. I would have control over all of that.My weakness? All this vector change requires a stupidly massive amount of brain power and most are stupidly difficult to calculate. As such, I cannot focus on more than one active task at a time. For other subconscious or passive tasks, I can stack those up since they're usually simple. Just multiply a vector by -1 and you get a reflection.@Day&Night:So, you're going to be the God of Qwas

Why can't you ask Mokona that question Cham. He has control over particles, which register as a more powerful, albeit more complicated, power. Plus, she can blow stuff up using A-bombs. Even I can't do that. She could even discover a type of alt energy, which benefits everyone, if she has enough control over it. That's a win, as long as she doesn't blow stuff up.Another superpower question. If you could have any biological superpower, what would it

For our purposes here, we could just say that it's restricted to pushing. The obvious failing is that it has little use outside of fighting, but in combat, it's a strong boon. An additional weakness is that although the density, speed, and direction of the force can be controlled, the power of the force cannot. If I want it to be weaker, I need to target a larger area. This means that I have capacity for moving things away from me with damaging them (as well and boosting myself off the ground), but only if I have the space to disperse all the force. Otherwise, the object I'm pushing (or my legs) will be pulverized.I would use it to get around more easily, and of course, if I'm ever in a fi

To read the minds of people!Me being an insecure person I would love that power to know what people think of me!What would my weakness be?Umm... the main one that the mind-reading is a two-way street. If people realize I'm reading their thoughts they can easily read mind (Doctor Who reference, I know, but still!) but only if they realize, like for instance, be really focused on any pull or anything they might feel not in a physical way but like a mental way, like a an almsot undetectable migraine and realize it and focus on it. I guess since reading minds would need something to do with brain waves I could accidentally transfer my thoughts to the person at the same time I search theirs and they could read those thoughts (if they focus on the migraine thing) and establish a mental link of sorts with me, therefore reading my mind.Another thing, since reading minds require a mental effort I would have to be focused and not disturbed while I read or else the mental link would be broken, and I would lose my focus of reality for a few moments, also it would be very tiring.Worst case scenario is that I might dig to deep and uncover buried traumas or forgotten phobias or even make a person remember something that could make them... well... to say the least, crazy (Examples: Being abused in a mental/physical way, attacked by something or someone, witnessed a death, etc).I can't exactly have a very detailed scientific explanation other than "I hit my head when I threw myself from the top of a building just like I saw in 'South Park' so I could get powers." but... yeah... no.EDIT: To D&N's suggestions I will add that trying to read someone's thoughts woudl require high mental output and since it will require most if not all of my mental power, my physical body will have to stay still. Maybe this power could be useful if I could work for the cops and they could keep the suspect still. As for the bio-power, I've got noth

Also your powers remind me wayyy too much about a book where a kid gets power over all physics, so he can fly, control time and space, etc. The only problem is that he needs the book to know the spells, and the words are stupidly complicated, as it was described. They also have repercussions.QuoteEndQuoteEEndKinda the same thing, except all I have control over are things with motion that have magnitude (a value, like m/s or mph) and a direction. This includes the flow of electricity and fluids. So, essentially, if I can come into contact with your blood, I can reverse it's flow and cause your entire circulatory system to fail. I forgot to mention that I can't control anything remotely over a large distance. Bullets, lasers, anything that fires particles I can reflect back in the exact opposite direction by default.Punches and other kinds of physical damage require more active calculations, since their trajectory is not a straight line. So, I can block and reflect physical attacks to some degree, but that will require more calculation.Against a wide-area attack, like an explosion, I can simply influence the currents of air and the pressure wave in my local vicinity and nudge them to the side, thus leaving myself unharmed. What the EFF does that mean???@Chamomile ...you are way too elaborate and smart. @Day&Night...you are way too observant and, yes, I must agree, picky. You should be a lawyer. @Chamomille & Day&Night...No offense to either of you, of course. @Mokonaglad to be of assistance. @blehgahI know, I too prefer making up powers without the restraints of the moral and physical worlds -- I mean, that's the point of superpowers, right, you get to ignore those things. But I often end up scientifically justifying mine anyways, because I overthink things and that's just how my mind works. @macfluffersDo your abilities cost energy to use? @bryanI thought I would want mind-reading too for a long time, but then I decided against it. In way too many cases it leads to insanity, especially since I'm quite mentally unstable already. There are also some things I just prefer not to know (as they say, innocence is bliss). It does make for very good stories, though. @Day&Night (again)Biological power... hmmm, I dunno. I guess... it would be really cool to have a very large supply of quickly-renewing stem cells somewhere in my body, because then I could heal really fast, and maybe even grow extra limbs and stuff if I could control the stem cells. (I don't know that much about stem cells though.) And now I would like to add three other possible tangents to this thread. They're a bit heavier with moral issues than the previous topics... so... you have been warned. 1. For a long time now, in my mind, I've had this vision/concept of a video game where you control a mildly autistic six-year-old kid with pretty much every superpower imaginable (except the ability to read minds, so his intelligence is average, but he doesn't have any other weaknesses) who's trying to save his parents who have been kidnapped (for some odd reason, they decided to kidnap the parents instead of the kid). What do you guys think, in general, of the concept of someone with little intelligence and a tremendous amount of power? 2. I've also had a vision of a video game where suddenly everyone on earth wakes up with a superpower (that corresponds to their personality). What do you guys think would happen in such a situation? What would happen to someone who for some reason did not receive any superpower? 3. In many movies/books about superpowers or magic, the issue of bringing back the dead is often imposed limits upon (you just can't do it, or they come back as "ghosts" or "zombies") or simply cast aside. What do you think would happen if a person did have the ability to perfectly restore the dead to a state of living? (They come back in the condition they were in before the thing that caused them to die began to affect them.) That's all for this rather long message. Please pardon my helter-skelter comma usage. Peace
