Also, I've been horribly busy ever since my first playthrough, so I haven't tried the new Insane! mode yet. Cerberus might not be so easy without sidequests anymore. :P I'll see when I have some free time, which at this rate might be...December. (

Wait..... side quests have been removed??? I didn't hear about this....Hmm..... you may be right. taunt ability might be destructive in the hands of a player. What about critters??? If there is a boss monster and everyone was made to attack the critter instead, it will break the strategy and make the minds spin...Oh and I don't mean for taunt to last a whole game. It expires after certain period of time. I think it will make the game whole lot interesting when there is another annoying critter on the lo

Taunt is a little weird in the enemies' hands, that's all: mental effects tend to make the player go "...But I don't to attack that guy, so shouldn't my characters listen to me?" If it were implemented instead by one creature being able to shield all the others, so that it's the only valid target, that might w

auts seem like a very weird ability. I think it will be pretty hard to code since I'm not even sure how it will work O_o. A creature that can randomly defend his ally sound a little better. QUOTE (EternalLurker @ Oct 28 2009, 07:50 PM) quotecThe difference between grinding and an easy mode, or a cheat, is that it's not an option that has to be actively turned on. Grinding is always available to anyone. The problem here is that it ends up being in the back of the developer's mind at all times. No matter how much (s)he may try to gear the game towards those who don't grind at all, as long as there is an made by the developer to enable extra, optional battles with powerful rewards, there will always be some scaling of battle difficulties towards those who have completed these battles. Thus, grinding options often end up skewing the difficulty to levels such that it is simply impossible to complete the game grinding at least a little. See? The issue with grinding isn't the players: it's the attitude it creates in the developer. Easy modes are added after the game is already complete: you make the game, you add an option to give all enemies a static 25% less health and damage or something like that, and you're done. Sidequests and optional battles are potentially a major part of the game, not a half-hearted tacked-on addition at the end, so they're not as easy to ignore when statting up battles.QuoteEndQuoteEEndThe solution was to reward players with power-ups that lasted one battle, and only a limited number of these can be carried at a time. Like Stragas said, it will function to give that extra edge for a battle, kind of like how Pokemon had a few items that boosted their special attack or defense for one battle. The difficulty would remain the same, except now there's this crutch that would help the less skilled play

Wait, maybe the taunt that I'm taking of is slightly different from yours.....I wanted taunt to be something made so that one the following turn that the field ability is used, every opponent will not attack anyone BUT the unit that has used taunt. In other words, you can move freely and use field abilities freely... just that during the combat phase, you cannot attack anyone BUT that unit that has used the taunt ability. Therefore the combat phase will go uselessly when a character cannot reach the taunted critter. It will annoy the players to great deal, making the players want to kill the critter doing the taunting. I'm sure you can balance the ability numerous ways.... like maybe since Tarrots are not exactly mortal, you can make it so that tarrots are unaffected, or have a cooldown time of one turn before being used again. At any rate, I don't see problem with taunt. But then again....... it will be a heck of an annoying ability

here was a voice actress, yes, but as far as I know her only dialogue was near the beginning of the game. It came out sounding kinda artificial, though that's less her fault and more an issue with what she was supposed to read. Tutorial text always sounds like t

I would like to know An... what is your opinion about voice acting for the seq
EternalLurker
ersonally, I much prefer not having voice acting. In a fictional world it's nicer to imagine the voices of the characters exactly as you see fit. Further, Sisily is extraordinarily silly, which comes across as rather cute in text but would probably be hard for an amateur VA to get right. I've only ever heard one Flash project (game/movie/etc) VA that I've ever li

There shouldn't be too much voice acting in the game. VA without a proper production value or reasonable experience can be very painful for the ears. I leave that for my imagination to fill in. VA in Genesis 1 was done sparingly, and it was workable. I didn't find it annoy

thought the voice acting was okay but I don't think I'd like to see it in every cutscene, unless it was professionally done (read: good) and the cutscenes were skippable. I find it much more efficient to read the text and imagine the voices than to hear it all sounded

QUOTE (An @ Nov 4 2009, 07:44 AM) quotecVoice acting for the whole game is out of reach. It is hard to get it right and it will increase the file size way too much. The game is not 10mb big and it is as big as a flash game can get without hurting distribution. I plan to have voice acting just for the tutorial again since I think it is important for players to understand the game, but not more.Btw, what did you guys think about voice acting for Genesis 1? I thought it was nice and easy to listen too but some ppl find it annoying.*shrug*QuoteEndQuoteEEndAh, I loved the voice-acting so much... I was disappointed when I realized there wasn't any more of it. But well, the difficulties are understandable.I think training is a bad idea - the system is so well-balanced that free grinding would ruin it. Extra sidequests, on the other hand, would add a nice flavor. Of course, sidequests are not really sidequests if you have to run them to beat the main quest (because of difficulty). So maybe doing the sidequests should also unlock more difficult opponents etc. The concept has great potent
