For those who started picking up on reading, I recommend the following books. They are all excellent.sizeo:5/sizeoThe Mysterious Benedict Society Series (3 books)sizec/sizecThe story is about a group of 4 very intelligent and resourceful children. They took an exam designed to pick out the best of children and were sent to a mysterious mission. The novels are brain-teasing and charming, with lot of puzzles and mysteries to be revealed. The characters are likable and well fleshed out: a flexible smart young boy, a bookworm with photographic memory, a resourceful girl who worked in a circus and had excellent athletic ability, and a young small girl with an attitude and extraordinary perceptions. I like how the author cleverly designed difficult challenges for them to overcome ; yet each of them has their own way to complete the challenges. sizeo:5/sizeo===============================sizec/sizecsizeo:5/sizeoThe Series of Unfortunate Events (13 novellas)sizec/sizecPerhaps many of you have already known this series since the first 3 books were made into a featured film a few year back. For those who didn't know, the story is about 3 orphans trying to escape an evil man who want to steal their parents's fortune. This series is one of the strangest book series I ever read. At first, I didn't like the story at all. Characters act very weirdly; matter of fact, 99% of them are out of their minds. I often find myself screaming "Why would you do that?". The setting is timeless, half-fantasy, half-reality. However, after a first couple books; the protagonists really grow on you and I kept looking forward to know what kind of unfortunate event and weird characters they would run into next. The series took a huge turn after book 7. Many mysteries was revealed just to lead to more mysteries. Some of the weird behaviors also started to make some senses.sizeo:5/sizeo===============================sizec/sizecsizeo:5/sizeoThe Hunger Game Series (3 books)sizec/sizecWhat can I say... The first book of this series had an incredible start. It is about this girl who was sent to play a brutal game in which you need to use your wit and power to kill all other players. The story is so thrilling and very very sad at places. If you can tolerate a little violence, you will find this book an incredible read. My words won't do this book justice. You just have to read it to see. One thing for sure tho, this one of the best book I ever r

I've been reading a lot of new editions of old books lately, and I would recommend the Dune saga, any Deryni trilogy, and one or two Dragonriders of Pern trilogies.I also liked the His Dark Materials trilogy, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 'trilogy', and the Ender s

Ender's Game is the penultimate example of awesome combined with military tactics and a slice of sci-fi. It's too bad the rest of the books in the saga, excluding Speaker of the Dead and Shadow, started to decay in design.I personally like short novels that have some form of 'trial by fire' for the character involved. One interesting variation to this, which I immensely like, would be the novel The Call of the Wild'. Trust me, you'll know what I mean. The 'Time Quartet' series is also a good read.

More on books, Artemis Fowl was good, as was the Da Vinci Code saga, (haven't read the Da Vinci Code though) and the Dragon Keeper trilogy (China, dragons, magic). Also, Akira is about the only manga I'd actually consider to be a no
