On November 17, 2011, three beings were designed and created by a man named Arthur Scarnell. Four years later, another joined them. They were guarded closely, and for sixteen years they were taught as much as was known: science, history, math, geography, religions, languages, and more. They did not know what they were, who they were, or why they existed, but they did as they were told. And though they never knew what the outside world was like, they longed for it and were afraid of it at the same time. Then, almost seventeen years after their creation, a man came to talk to them. He was unlike any other man they had met. He was not in as suit or lab coat, he was not wearing glasses of any kind, he spoke differently, he acted differently, he even walked differently! He was different, and the Children did not like that.“He reeks of the Outside,” a male voice muttered to the other three.“Yes. But we know nothing of the Outside, we should hear what he has to say,” a slightly higher voice replied. This one too was male.“I don’t care what he has to say. Let’s just rip him apart!” A female voice said quite loudly.“You know we cannot. Let us just listen. Maybe he is not to be destroyed,” another male voice said, the deepest of the four.“We shall see,” replied the first voice, and the room sunk back into silence. For a while, the man from the Outside said nothing, then he started to say something, his voice quivered, and died back down again. The deep voice spoke again, “If you are to say something, then say it. If not, then leave.”The man stared into the dark side of the room, trying to make out the shapes of the four Children. Finally he spoke, “I am here to take you away.”As soon as he said this, the wall beside them exploded. “Come!” he yelled at the Children, urging them outside, “We have little time left! Don’t worry; I’m working with your father!” With that, he reached out and grabbed two of them and began to drag them through the hole, the other two following.“Let go of me! I can walk!” came the first male voice from the Child in the man’s left hand. He let go of both of them, and the Child that was in his right hand, the female, turned and glared at him.“It’s good if you can walk,” the man replied, hurrying them along, “but right now we need to run!” He started sprinting, and found himself surprised by the fact that all four of the Children were keeping up with him.“Don’t be so surprised,” the Child with the high voice said, apparently the youngest, “we’ve been trained physically as hard as we’ve been trained mentally. Can you go any faster? They’re going to catch up.” He motioned behind him. The man turned and saw men in suits behind them, slowly coming closer. With a burst of energy from the man, and another explosion in the wall in front of them, they made it out before the shield wall closed over the facility.“We’re goin’ up,” the man said, and grabbed a rung of the rope ladder that swung down in front of him.“Before we go anywhere with you,” the girl Child said with much contempt, “You could at least tell us your name.”The man sighed and said, “My name is Robert, now grab on!”Doing as they were told, the Children were lifted into the air. Climbing the rope into Robert’s helicopter, the Children found themselves being studied by another new face. “This is Sheila, my partner,” Robert explained, introducing the woman looking them over, “and in the cockpit is my sister Kate.”“So these are the Children, hmm? Not much to look at, but what is there appears to be human,” Sheila commented, seeming let down.“Appears to be human? What is she talking about?” The Children muttered amongst themselves.“There has been a lot of speculation among the few that know of your existence about whether or not you were actually living creatures.” Robert explained to them, “But from what I’ve seen, you’re human enough.”“How did you know about our existence in the first place? Not that we know of the Outside, but we thought that… well… the Outside was a wasteland of little fertility and life.” The question had come from the Child with the deepest voice, who Robert and Kate now saw was the tallest.“That, Child, is a blatant lie,” replied Robert, and moving on with his train of thought, asked, “Do you Children have names? We can’t go on calling each of you Child, now can we?”There was a pause, and the youngest looked at the others. Then he said, “We were never given names. It was considered too dangerous.”“To hell with it being dangerous! If it’s too dangerous to give you kids names, then it’s too dangerous to have you around at all!” Robert exclaimed somewhat angrily, “Now, starting with you,” he pointed at the youngest, “let’s give you kids names. You can be Kristopher.” He turned towards the girl, thought a bit, and then said “I think that Samantha seems right for you.” He looked at the tall one next, “You look like a good Jacob.” He turned lastly to the last one, the one that had spoken first in the facility, and asked him, “How would you like to named Maximilion?” The Children looked at each other, thought about the names they had been given, and said excitedly, “Okay!”Continuing it, this isn't the end. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif

If you're planning on writing two stories at once, be careful. You'll hit a lot of brick walls by trying to keep both storylines unique and unconnected, since all the ideas are spawning from your head. As well, you may run out of ideas to use for the two (or more) of them.Imagine, if you will, trying to do a StarCraft Fanfic and a Ge.Ne.Sis Fanfic, along with a few independent stories all at the same time. I burnt myself out in a few weeks doing that, so, at the moment, all I'm doing is the StarCraft one and the Ge.Ne.Sis one. What I'm trying to get at is, don't spread yourself too thin.Oh, sorry. I've just been offering my "sagely" wisdom this whole time /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />''The story itself is good, so far as I can see for now. I personally prefer your fanfic, mostly because it's more developed at the moment. This snippet here looks like a really fast introduction to the book. I'm a sucker for good character development throughout books, so this intro was a bit of a letdown. It didn't really leave me wanting more yet, but I am anticipating the next little bit of this, should you decide to continue it.Oh, and I don't "lie" any of the characters... I "like" Sam and Sheila, though. “Thank you for waiting,” Robert said, sitting down in front of them, the two women sitting beside him, “We have nothing to do right now, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.”The Children looked over the three adults, and for the first time they took full note of the physiques and features of their ‘kidnappers’. Robert had somewhat dark skin, hinting at an Arabic or Asian descent. He had blonde hair that swung down to reach just above his brown eyes, hiding his small forehead and outlining his large-yet-ordinary nose and tight lips. Noting that they had to look up to see his face properly, the Children realized that he was tall, despite his misleading stature and air of timidity. Beside him, his partner Sheila was almost exactly everything he wasn’t. Fair-skinned, her short brown hair was barely heavy enough to be affected by gravity. Her big gray-blue eyes were outlined by subtle yet easily visible wrinkles that faded out near her pointy nose, then were visible again near the not at all proportional lips of her small mouth. She looked small and fragile, but only when disregarding the way she held herself, which gave clues to how strong she really was. Closer to the Children was Kate. Her skin was slightly lighter than her brother’s, and her long black hair went straight down behind her, except one lock that went down to reach her wide smile. Her nose was unobtrusive and was hardly noticeable under the bright green eyes. She was by no means a fragile woman, but did not look overly muscly. All together, the three looked like a great team, even if they didn’t have anything to do.As the Children were looking the adults over, the same was happening in the reverse. Jacob and Kris looked like brothers: same dark skin, same thin face, same knowing disposition, and the same piercing gaze. They might have been twins if Kris had not been shorter, and the deep dark brown eyes of Jacob had carried over, instead of the sharp, gazing grey eyes of Kristopher. Sam had thick light brown hair reaching down to her waist, which exposed her large forehead. The freckles on her large cheeks made her look younger than she was, but the full shadowed-blue eyes had signs of deeper knowledge. She had a little but bulbous nose, which conflicted greatly with the fact that the small lips on her little-more-than-a-line mouth. Her skin was white like the boy sitting next to her, but Max looked very little like Sam otherwise. His almost-black hair was wavy, but it was short enough to be hard to notice that fact. His long eyelashes made his brown eyes look bigger than they were, and accented his slightly large nose. His mouth was normal in all respects, and his slightly lanky physique made him hard to notice, but he seemed to be the strongest of the four, and the leader –if anyone was- of the group of Children. After the Children and the adults had looked each other over, there was a deep silence.Suddenly, Robert started laughing and managed to say, “Alright, I blinked. What do you want to know?”The Children looked at each other, confused. Kate tried to explain, “When two people are staring at each other, someone can call a staring contest and the first person to blink loses."“I see,” Max said, “Then, since you-“ A loud siren suddenly wailed to life.“Sorry guys, no time! Come with us!” came Robert’s voice form behind the Children. Kate and Sheila forged on ahead, leading the Children nearer and nearer to the locked door they had seen before. Suddenly, Sheila disappeared into a passageway that they had missed in the dark corridor. When Kate gestured as to do so, the Children walked in after Sheila and into total darkness. Then a flash of light came as the bulbs in the hangar light up. Sheila, the Children, and the two adults behind them were suddenly confronted with a gigantic room filled with vast amounts of different kinds of transportation. Sheila started making her way towards the back, leading the children further in to the unnecessarily well-lit room. When she stopped, she was standing by three sports carsShe told them, “Okay, Jake, you’re coming with me. Max and Kris can go with Robert, and Kate can bring Sam. Any objections? No? Good. Let’s go.” The Children got into the cars they were assigned, and a platform lowered them even further down than they already were. A door opened, and they sped off into the night. There might be a few holes. It gets more sci-fi next part, but I haven't written that yet.Oh, and Chamo, about the multiple stories thing, I have a very single-track mind. I may even have more than one of them, if that makes any sense. And none of my ideas have any scenarios that could possibly become related anyway. And for the record, I have no idea where I'm going with this story after the next chapter. We'll see what happens n

The Children hopped off eagerly, ready to scan and explore the new place. It was the first time they were given so much freedom. There was one room that was blocked off, so they ignored it and continued scanning. Once they had a layout of the cave/house and mental notes of everything and where it was, they came back to the helipad to find the three adults. After unloading the three giant brown bags from the copter, the Children proceeded to sit quietly beside each other until the adults had finished what they were doing and were free enough to talk to them.“Thank you for waiting,” Robert said, sitting down in front of them, the two women sitting beside him, “We have nothing to do right now, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.”The Children looked over the three adults, and for the first time they took full note of the physiques and features of their ‘kidnappers’. She was the shortest by four centimetres, which made her look even younger, and almost everything about her made her look like a cute nine-year-old, even though she knew more than most university graduates. Her skin was white like the tall boy sitting next to her, but Max looked very little like Sam otherwise. His almost-black hair was wavy, but it was short enough to be hard to notice that fact. Let’s go.” The Children got into the cars they were assigned, and a platform lowered them even further down than they already were. A door opened, and they sped off into the night. They passed over hillsides, drove across fields, and sped through cities. After three and a half hours of driving, a dot appeared on the horizon behind them.“Dammit!” Robert yelled, and punched the gas. As all three cars sped up, the dot silently grew closer and closer, until it was obvious that it was some kind of short-range troop-movement helicopter. One side was open, and as the helicopter overtook the three cars, a rope unravelled out of it. Suddenly, as if it had just materialized out of thin air, a concrete roadblock appeared and the three cars were forced to stop.“What are we going to do?” Sheila yelled through the windows. Kate shook her head. Beside her, Sam was gripping tightly to the seat.“Get out of the car,” she growled through clenched teeth. Kate did as she was told, and motioned the others to do the same. Once everyone had gotten out of his or her respective cars, a figure started to lower itself out of the helicopter.Max sighed, “I hoped we’d never have to use this.” He put his hands on one of the cars. The other Children except for Kris did the same. Instantly, the cars started crumpling up and changing, releasing a lot of steam and smoke into the air. When the smoke had dissipated, the Children stood in front of the gaping adults. They looked the same, except for the fact that they had giant weapons in their hands. Kate gasped as the three brandished their newfound weapons. Sam now had an extremely large multi-edged sword, approximately two meters in length and thirty centimetres wide at its widest edge. She swung it easily, and almost sliced Max, who ducked just before it cut him in half. He was then barely visible behind his two hooded kattaris. They were large, extended right up his forearms, and had a blade all the way up the side. Other than that, they were a bit crude. There seemed to be a bit more smoke now, and it was coming from Jacob. His weapon was not as large as the others, but it was still big. It was a corrugated V-blade with a large metal plate at the centre, covering most of Jacob’s forearm and extending much farther than his hand. At the opposite end, two pipes were pouring steam into the air. Jacob made a small arm movement, and the weapon swivelled, the steam stopped, and the blade retracted so that Jacob’s hand was visible. A sudden noise came from behind, and the adults turned around. A tall woman with long grey-silver hair, and a somewhat short man with no hair to speak of had come out of the helicopter. The man whispered a barely audible “Kill them.” And climbed back up the ladder as the helicopter flew away.“So, they left an unarmed woman to kill us? How does that work?” asked Robert. The woman’s hair started to sway in a non-existent breeze.“She’s not unarmed,” Kate whispered back. The woman’s hair stood straight, creating a pointy ball around most of her head.“So what?” Max scoffed loudly, “You’re going to kill us with frizzy hair?” He looked at the other Children, and they took a small step forward. Suddenly the woman launched herself at Robert, only to be blocked by Jacob’s blade-shield. The mist covered them, and the woman was forced to retreat. She heard a noise, turned around and jumped sideways just before a swing from Sam’s blade reached her. Unfortunately, that jump brought her into reach of Max, and she was sliced open by his kattari.“Kill me!” She pleaded, “They’ll kill me anyway if I go back!”Max, surprised that she had been defeated that easily, replied, “No, you robotic scumbag. I want you to deliver a message. Tell them that we’ll never go back, and if they try to force us, they’ll die.”The Children walked away, and were quickly followed by the three nervous adults. After about a kilometre, when they were out of eyeshot and earshot of the woman, Jacob turned around. “Okay,” he said, “Since our weapons can no longer be used as cars, we have no means of transportation. Robert, Kate, Sheila, we leave it up to you

The group of seven trekked on for a while, and entered a secret passageway inside a cave hidden under a rock on a hill in a forest. They slid down a shaft, and emerged to fall onto a train like object that looked oddly like a mine cart with a roof. They climbed into the cart and it shot off like rocket. A few minutes later, it deposited them onto the ground in a place that was somehow darker than the cave and shaft, which had had no light in them whatsoever.“Come, follow me,” came Sheila’s voice from apparently nowhere, but the Children followed her voice, as she was singing a tune and they could pinpoint where the voice was coming from. Suddenly, rows of bright but not harsh lights came on and revealed them to be in a hallway. “Welcome!” Sheila boomed, “To the underground branch of the InterCY Corporation! Welcome, to FLAME.” They continued walking until they reached an elevator, and they were taken deeper underground.“This is where we do our tests,” Sheila continued. Robert had appeared behind them, but Kate was nowhere to be found.“What tests?” Sam asked, suspicious, “And where is Kate?”“Oh, she’s probably in her room crying,” Robert replied, staring out a glass wall.“We’ll talk more about that later,” Sheila cut in, “We need to take a blood test. Is that all right?” The Children nodded. The elevator stopped. “Follow me,” she said, and walked right out. Not knowing what else to do, the Children followed her as they were told, with Robert bringing up the rear. She led them past many chambers, most were empty, but some had people and unrecognisable objects and machines in them. Finally, they reached a chamber that looked like a bedroom.“Ow!” cried Max, knocking hard against the corner of one of the beds. A nail scraped his leg.“Here, let me have a look at that,” Robert said, and bent over. Silver blood was coming out of the wound. Robert nodded over to Sheila.“Change of plans, Children. Come with me,” she said sweetly, grabbing Kris tightly by the arm. They walked back the way they came and turned a corner about halfway. They entered a different elevator, went up a floor, and walked along a long hallway. They stopped and entered one of the doors. As soon as the Children had entered the room, Sheila turned and walked out, locking the door as she left.“Hey!” Sam yelled at the door.“Sorry Children,” Sheila replied, her voice as silky as ever, “But it seems you’re not human after all. “You may just be spies for all we know, and we can’t take that chance. You may be happy to know that you’ll spend your last days with your father. And don’t worry about food; we have to feed you, no matter what. See you later.” She laughed maliciously and her voice disappeared, leaving the Children in silence.“Father?” asked Sam, “We have a father?” They looked around the room. They saw nothing but four bleak grey walls, a door, a nondescript ceiling, a dirty floor, and a pile of blankets. The Children walked over to where the pile of blankets was in the opposite side of the room, and found underneath it a man, sleeping. As soon as they took the blankets off, he woke up.“Who are you?” he asked loudly, fear in his eyes that there might be more punishment waiting for him, “I’ll do whatever you want, just stop playing your mind tricks on me.” The Children looked at each other.“What?” Jacob asked, stepping forward, “No, no no. We got thrown in here just like you.”“You can’t fool me, I know what you want. I’ll never give it to you though. You’ll never get the secret to my children!”“Children?” Max asked, and stood beside Jacob, “Do you mean us?”“What? That’s a lie! You’re not my children! The government would never have given you up! Lies!” was the reply he got.“You’re right, they didn’t.” Kris spoke up now, stepping in and closing the arc between the walls. Sam looked around the room and suddenly felt very lonely. Finally, the man cracked, and broke down crying. Through the sobs, the Children heard a couple of “The government”s and “Damn them”s and even an “I loved you so much.”When he had regained control of himself, the man told them, “My name is Arthur Scarnell. About fourteen years ago, I created four beings. They were, and are, you. I am your father. The thing is, one of those beings- One of you was- is human. I’m not sure which one, but it’s one of you. And I guess since you’re here, you need a way to get out. Follow me.”Arthur led the Children around the room to a place in a blind spot of the door, right under the security camera. “We need to take this out,” Arthur told them quietly, “I can get in and out without being noticed, but all five of us can’t. Can any of you help?”“I’ll try,” replied Jake, taking a small metal shape and holding it in his right hand. Immediately, the metal started to unravel, and piece by piece formed Jacob’s mechanical shield-blade. He started it up, and the blade extended. Rather than the usual steam however, smoke was now coming out of the pipes. Soon the smoke turned into flames, and Jacob crouched down. He jumped, right arm propelling him through the air. The blade sliced the camera clean in two, and the momentum took the base right off the wall. Jacob stopped at the ceiling, grabbed onto a pipe, and dislodged his blade. Letting go of the pipe, Jacob fell twenty feet. He rolled in the air to slow his descent, and, landing crouched on the ground, rolled immediately to absorb the impact. The security camera pieces landed a second after, and the others clapped for the spectacle. Bowing, Jacob returned his weapon into its small metal form and slipped it back into his pocket.Once the security camera had been taken out, the five crossed back over to the other side of the room. Arthur pulled away the blankets and ushered the Children into the revealed tunnel. Putting the blankets back, he followed them into the darkness.Thank you!EDIT: Nobody's reading my story! /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Not even Chamo. *si
