It was graduation day at St. Victor?s Battle School. With more people joining its ranks everyday, it?s no wonder Kanadein is the fastest growing military kingdom in the Known World. The graduates receive their swords and thank the master. That?s where I come is. I?m not like some of the others here: I?m weak and I?m slow, but I know a whole lot. You see, I?ve been training as a mage. Because this world is a world of Man, Magic, and Machine.Lame intro YAY!?Wake up? Wake up. Wake up!? I sat bolt upright, accidentally headbutting my senior officer. I haven?t introduced myself yet, have I? My name is Flyte Kaine. I?m 23, have crazy red hair, am 192 cm, have purple eyes, a lanky figure, and tan skin. I?m an amazing mage but I daydream often. ?Ouch!? said the man on the ground, ?Now if only you could apply those skills on the field!? James Valen: the greatest man I ever knew was also my best friend. At 200 cm, he was the tallest in our group. The best warrior on the force for three straight years, it?s a wonder he even talked to me. He has black hair and green eyes, and knows simple elemental enchantment spells. I?m still amazed by what he did. Anyways, back to reality. I got dressed and went outside my room. The rest of the group was there. There were six of us: me; James; his brother Mark; Rosa and Rio, twins with inherent battle abilities; and an assassin known only as Shi-On. ?Come on, sleepyhead! It?s time for breakfast!? Mark exclaimed happily. ?What?? I asked, ?I missed exercises?? ?You sure did, you lazy bum,? Rosa proclaimed, which bought he a smack from her younger brother. ?You stupid idiot, get serious! This is why we always fail our missions!? ?You kiddin?? We?re only 14! Usually, you have to be 18 to join the force. We were twelve!? We all laughed as we watched the fight. Finally James broke in, ?Break it up. Do you want breakfast or not?? We went down to breakfast. Eggs, bacon, and bread had all been delivered earlier this morning. This would be a good breakfast. The reason that we're isolated is to see whether or not we are a good team. You see, on missions, we might go for months with no external contact, so we needed to make sure that the team wouldn't have a falling out. Today was our last day. After lunch, we headed to the battle room, but we'll get to that later. Once everyone had finished breakfast, we started training. Shi-On hitting her wooden training poles, the twins having a mock battle, James teaching and sparring with Mark, and me learning and practicing my magic. Today I was researching arcane magic when I found a piece of paper with a triangle's circumcircle and some strange symbols. Unfortunately, I couldn't read the symbols, so I put the paper in my bag for later. Looking for other books, I found three at the end with the same symbols. I put these into my bag as well. After that, I started practicing the magic that I hadn't completely mastered yet. A while later, I started to get hungry, so I decided to go make lunch. Not surprisingly, James was there. "Hey Flyte," he asked calmly, "Can you help me with this? It's supposed to be toast." "So you're frying it?" "I said I needed you help." (Go figure. James may be the greatest guy on the force, but he's a terrible cook.) I sighed, turned off the stove, and looked around the room, "Let me guess. You've got a quail in the pickling jar, and lettuce in the oven." "You're right about the lettuce, but it's a hog in the pickling jar." "Okay. Take them both out. Now then, let's make some soup." It wasn't my first time helping him cook, but his brother did it a lot more often than I did. About ten minutes later, lunch was ready. I went to get everyone, who, oddly enough, were talking in room. The soup was great, and the conversation began with Mark: "Hey Flyte, did James make this?" "He helped." "Hey," James interjected, before his brother could inquire further, "Today's our last day right?" "Yeah," replied the twins in unison, "I wonder what our final battle will be?" "Shi-On, you always give good advice, what do you think?" "Since you asked Mark, I believe that whatever it is will be a true test of our abilities." She finished her tea, stood up, stretched, and said, "All right, I'll be getting ready." After she left, everyone else quickly finished lunch and went to go get ready, eager to start the battle. I grabbed my two chakram and headed to the battle room. Once everyone was ready, the doors opened. "Ready?" James asked as we walked through the doors. "Hell yeah."Chapter One finished! Please forgive the language at the end.Spoiler alert!Flyte is a girl, and marries Mark in the epilogue.There will be three stories. No sooner had he said this than our shadows began to move. We instantly sprang into action. I charged up a αστραπή spell and sent it at Mark's shadow, but it was deflected by a φράγμα from mine.
