I only thought about this topic when I was clearing my yaoi mangas for my friends to take it to his place to temporarily hide it.According to this "research",people who indulge themselves in the virtual world encounters depression which leads to suicidal thoughts as well as stir up negative thoughts in teens of today, causing them to commit sinful acts.ESP : Gamers,Teens,Social Networking ManiacsNow..trying to say that being indulged in computer sure does stir up negative thoughts or influence if one is not aware of his/her limit. But saying that indulgence in computer causes depression is something I cannot accept. If that is the case, why not say that people who work in the computer field may experience depression as well ? They face computers everyday, their job is to solve prolems regarding computers. Then again..allow me to be honest.I have faced depression before,it may not be the ones where depression is at its worse. But I do get depressed when I browse through some handsome gay's profile on a social dating site.I was thinking maybe what they say is true.Because half of the time,I am either being paranoid, somewhat depressed or thinking negatively rather than positively. However,I don't think that is the main factor to the contribution of my depression.I'd regard it more as more of a low self-esteem.Or lack of confidence where one is unable to do any actions with confidence.I want to know what do you guys think.Whether your answer is yes or no.You may feel free to provide a research, information or articles regarding the topic.Or any that is relevant to the topic.I for one,as I've said do not think being an addict towards computer is the cause of depression.Therefore..I vote

Those who are not depressed are not good with computers. Turing killed himself with an apple full of cyanide; Dijkstra fought flame wars with absolutely everybody; Gödel was paranoid. Such illustrious examples, no?QuoteEndQuoteEEndThat point is pure bull. While my mother is a prime example of that, I personally am the exact antithesis of that statement. I am in no way depressed, and I work my way around a computer with ease. You would be surprised as to how many "depressed" friends I have who can't even begin to understand the of a computer.Alan Turing was NOT depressed. Search Alan's Wikipedia and you will find no reference to depression anywhere.Turing lived a relatively happy life, especially in his childhood, which is where the seeds of depression are most often planted. As for you and your colleagues, you're making generalizations...There is no way for you ALL to be depressed, unless you're all chemically imbalanced, or unless the nature of your job is causing you depress

QUOTE (EternalLurker @ Dec 9 2009, 08:01 AM) quotecThis is silly. It's not that computer addiction causes depression. It's that there is a (perfectly logical) correlation between sort of addiction and clinical depression. Addictions are unhealthy regardless of the subject.I don't know how repressed gays are in Malaysia, but I imagine it's even worse than in the US, so I'd say that's fairly obviously the cause of your occasional bouts of depression.QuoteEndQuoteEEndThis topic doesnt refer only to gays in whichever countries. It's just that, what the Malaysian reasearchers find about computer addicts breeds depressed humans. But I think that honestly is bulls

Obviously on a forum for an online game, we are bound to get a larger catchment of computer "addicts" than if we were doing this as, say, a written concensus. In the end, it's all pretty much down to who answers and what kind of person they
